Txikito

New York, NY

Chefs Alex Raij and Eder Montero just relaunched the pioneering Basque restaurant they opened in 2008, setting out to further cement Txikito as a New York City institution. Tasked with providing a fresh take on Basque culture, we were honored to redesign the menus and integrate their pre-existing logo and tree mark to new materials, layouts, and systems.

In this direction, we drew inspiration from menus of various institutions, from Paris’ and New York’s glamorous brasseries to Spain’s quality taverns and Buenos Aires’ historic parrillas. The menu cover's radical blue and contrasting primary red mark reflects the innovative thinking and nature of the Basque Country. Contrast is also found in the menu layouts, that seamlessly combine structure with imperfection, unfussy typography with inked and penciled notes. The region's craftsmanship and natural qualities are echoed in our choice of substantial, premium papers, as well as the recourse to artisanal printing techniques such as engraving and foil.
